What is... Forgiveness??
A nightmare mm?
Forgiveness, in its most literal sense, is defined as the act of letting go of anger or resentment toward someone for an offense or mistake. It’s a word that is often used lightly, as if it were as simple as saying “it’s okay” and moving on. But over time I started to think that forgiveness might be a little more complex than that.
Still, I don’t want to turn this into a long reflection. The real reason for this entry is a strange dream I had a few days ago.
Well, maybe it wasn’t only strange.
It felt more sad, or thoughtful than that.
I was in school again, in high school, surrounded by people I knew. Everyone seemed to be asking for forgiveness. Some were shouting, some crying, some begging. Each of them had their own reasons.
I simply forgave them one by one.
Familiar face after familiar face.
Out of all of them, the only one I clearly remember is a girl who was crying uncontrollably, all because she had never told me something back then.
But anyway, moving on.
In the end, there was only one person left.
Someone I couldn’t recognize, and I couldn’t remember why he was there.
I just sat down in front of him until he touched me to get my attention and said:
“There's one you forgot to forgive.”
“Who did I forget?” I asked.
“You forgot to forgive yourself.”
The truth is, I don’t really believe dreams are something completely real or that they always mean something for sure. Maybe the reasons in the dream weren’t even true. Maybe those people don’t even know anything about forgiveness.
But when I woke up, I just stayed there looking at the ceiling in silence, listening to the sound of my alarm… or maybe it was music. I’m not really sure.
